The industry of transportation is certainly a large one all throughout the world. As a matter of fact, there are now up to 12 million different kinds of vehicles, including trucks, locomotives, and rail cars, now used to move goods from one part of the country to the next. This has been great for employment all throughout this country as well, due to the fact that more than five and a half million people are employed to drive these commercial vehicles. And even more people are employed in some other facet of the industry of transportation as well, something that certainly should not be looked over.
Of course, the transportation industry in the United States is very much on the rise. Much of the data that has been gathered on the subject is very much in support of this claim. For one thing, the sheer amount of goods shipped is expected to grow quite impressively in the coming years. For while around 15 billion tons were shipped in the year of 2015, more than 18 billion will be shipped by the time that we have reached the year of 2040, a year that is now not so far off into the future at all. In fact, by the time that we reach that year, it is actually likely that we will be shipping nearly 19 billion tons of cargo. And in the years that follow after, the number is likely to continue to grow and to grow.
But it’s not just the sheer amount of cargo that is one the rise. As a matter of fact, the actual value of the goods and products being shipped has been steadily climbing for quite some time as well. Again, the data gathered on the subject is very much in favor of this claim. After all, this data has found that by the time we reach that same year of 2040, the value of just one ton of cargo will have exceeded $1,300. This is up from, again, the year of 2015, when a ton of cargo was only worth just slightly more than $880. Therefore, the shipping industry and the transportation industries are experiencing more growth and more overall success than ever before, something that is most certainly very important indeed for just about every other person who also works there, from truckload carriers to those who work in the field of specialty freight services.
And many of these specialty freight services are becoming more and more accessible as the industry itself continues to grow and broaden. Less than truckload carriers are becoming more and more common, as a matter of fact. And again, the data backs this up, showing that the market for less than truckload services has already reached $35 billion, a number that will only go up from here on out. Therefore, less than truckload carriers are obviously in quite the demand, to say the very least. In addition to this, trade show freight shipping services and trade show logistics services on the whole have become ever more popular – and more able to be supported than ever thanks to this industry wide growth.
But why has such growth occurred on such a large scale? Though there are certainly a number of ways in which you could answer this question, online shopping overall e-commerce is one of the most compelling ones. After all, the growth of e-commerce throughout the United States and in the world at large has been quite astronomical indeed, to say the very least. Already, the e-commerce market in the United States alone brings in more than $420 billion over the course of a single year, an amount that will keep steadily climbing upward in the time that is ahead of us. Truckload carriers, therefore, are more in demand than ever before, as these truckload carriers work to move so many of the goods that have been ordered online, be they less than truckload carriers or more typical truckload carriers.
At the end of the day, there are many ways in which the transportation industry has grown throughout the course of history and will continue to grow.
