With modern chemistry being so incredibly advanced, it can be rather difficult to understand what metal might be right for your project, whether personal or professional. The fact of the matter that almost every alloy is different from the next, leaving you with a lot of options to choose from. Yet, what type of alloys are the one that would be best for your project?
This is a hard task to undertake, as there are so many on the market and so much information on each individual one, but this is where some research is required. Rather than having to go through all of the legwork yourself, consider the following information that we will provide, primarily considering the properties of each alloy and how they might be applicable towards the work that you are trying to take care of.
Four common metals used by professionals in the construction industry are carbon steel, aluminum, copper, and stainless steel. Similarly, there are four categories in which alloy steels — steel that is alloyed with other elements to better its abilities for specific properties — can be divided: structural steels, magnetic alloys, tool and die steels, and stainless and heat-resisting steels. Which type of these materials will work for you is dependent upon what you are seeking to do with the materials, and that requires information that you may or may not currently have.
Again, while there are many different types of alloys to choose from allow us to only choose a few that could be used in one project or another: Aluminum Bronze C63200, Stainless Steel Alloy 600, Monel K400 Alloy, and Monel K500 Alloy.
Aluminum Bronze C63200
Aluminum bronze alloys, which are typically made of 9%-12% aluminum and 6% of iron and nickel, are commonly used alloys by construction workers and contractors. A heat treated alloy, C63200 is highly-regarded for its strong, corrosion resistant abilities. C63200 similarly has a low magnetic permeability — the ability for magnetic fields to pass through the material is quite low — so it is useful for electronic instruments, whether that be within computers and amplifiers.
Useful in hazardous, rough conditions, C63200 is commonly applied to fields of engineering that require a great deal of durability against mechanical stress. For this reaosn, C63200 is often found in aviation, deep-sea, and oil-mining engineering.
Stainless Steel Alloy 600
A precipitation hardened stainless steel, Stainless Steel Alloy 600 is an extremely popular product due to it unwavering strength even at high temperatures. Due to its high yield strength, this metal is often used for instruments and engineering that can withstand a great deal of pressure, primarily for bolting and pressurized materials that undergo elevated temperatures. It can most often be found in aviation products.
Monel K400 Alloy and Monel K500 Alloy
A nickel-copper alloy, Monel K400 and K500 are separate types of alloy materials, each with their own personalized properties, all of which makes them perfect for specific projects. K400, which can withstand temperatures up to 2,372 degree Fahrenheit, can resist harsh, acidic chemicals, which means it will perform quite well in alkaline environments. For this reason, K400 can often be found in marine and chemical engineering. Similarly, K500 is extremely resistant to corrosion, used in the fields of chemical, nuclear, marine, and naval engineering.
